The main purpose of the society is to work for the preservation of all kinds of chess memorabilia in Iceland, inspirit writing about the history of chess, major chess events and the countries foremost chess grandmasters. Furthermore to support chess exhibitions, publications and seminars.

The first project of the society is the completion and opening of this extensive website in GM Fridrik Ólafsson´s honor, about his chess career with description of all his games, tournaments and matches. Listing of his worthy opponents and results are included.

Opened on his 81th birthday 26 January 2016.
